On the morning of February 8, the 2015 Seminar of the Clinical Application of Umbilical Cord Blood in Shandong was held smoothly in Jinan. The Seminar was organized by Shandong Cord Blood Bank and there were more than 40 participants, including the directors and backbone doctors from hematology department of the provincial top-three hospitals developing transplant.

During the Seminar presided over by Wang Xin, the director of hematology department of Shandong Provincial Hospital and Liu Chuanfang, the director of hematology department of Qilu Hospital of Shandong University, Luo Rongmu, the director of hematology and oncology department of Bayi Children’s Hospital, the affiliated hospital of Beijing Military District General Hospital, and Huang Ning, the director of hematology department of Qianfoshan Hospital of Shandong Province shared their treatment cases. 

At the beginning, Hou Huaishui, the director of Shandong Cord Blood Bank, gave a welcoming speech and introduced the general situation of Shandong Cord Blood Bank. Director Hou also analyzed and gave his opinions on the current development status of umbilical cord blood bank. Then, Director Luo Rongmu gave an academic report on “haploid allogene hematopoietic stem cell transplantation (HSCT)”. Director Luo said that all the present blood transplantation of Bayi Children’s Hospital shall be assisted by a transplantation of umbilical cord blood cell, at the same time, he communicated with others about the relapse prevention plan, immunotherapy plan and complication management after transplantation, etc. 

Cases discussion step was specially arranged for the seminar by Shandong Cord Blood Bank. Zhao Chunting, the director of hematology department of the Affiliated Hospital of Qingdao University Medical College, Zhang Hao, the director of hematology department of the Affiliated Hospital of  Jining Medical University, and Hao Yunliang, the director of hematology department of the First People’s Hospital of Jining City introduced a lot of clinical application cases of umbilical cord blood in detail, and consulted experienced Director Luo and Director Huang about the problems encountered in therapy. Questions like "how to select effective donators" and "whether half-matched hematopoietic stem cells can be used on the patients above 40 years old" caused a heat debate among the experts. That experts expressed their opinions one after another brought about the fierce debate for several times. 

At last, Director Huangning summarized the Seminar, he said that the transplantation of the hematopoietic stem cells had formed a certain scale in Shandong, and hoped that a relevant organization can be established by the experts of Shandong, who can “speak out” in the national even international conferences in the future to make contribution for the transplantation of the hematopoietic stem cells. In addition, Director Liu Chuanfang gave a positive assessment on the Seminar and expressed his thanks to Shandong Cord Blood Bank for good platform for experts.
